Greetings! Brad Hafen has charged me with starting a blog for our class. I do think it's a great idea. Those of you on Facebook who have not joined the Dixie High Flyers Class of '71 group, please do so. It will be a great way to communicate info about a reunion and keep in touch with each other.
Feel free to post pics on there.
I am going to just blog for a minute or two now. . .
The longer I am out of high school the more I realize what a strange time it was. Girls were supposed to wear skirts and panty hose to football games. In the Sun Bowl no less. Man, that was just odd. No wonder I started the Rocky Bastion Fan Club so we levi wearing misfits would have a group to sit with. Speaking of Rocky, does anyone know where he is and what he is up to these days?
I was explaining to my son what we went through to buy "albums." He was in disbelief. I had to order the music I wanted from Tri State and wait for it to come in when we were in junior high. By high school I think I discovered the Columbia Record Club or something because I don't remember going to Tri State a lot.
Remember going to Vegas to concerts? I still do that. Just saw Dylan at Hard Rock on Sunday and I think I could have gotten a contact high if my nose hadn't been so stuffed up.
Sunday mornings at Fenton's Famous Pharmacy. What a hoot that was. We didn't make any money working there, but it was the mecca of social activity Sunday mornings.
Paper staff. What fun that was! Poor Debbie trying to keep us on track when we were alone in the building at night. There was so much exploring to do and mischief to get into. We did get the Flyers Flash out every week though.
Clark Hafen was such a great teacher. He introduced me to so many great authors and books. He gave me Lonesome Dove to read and it is my favorite book. I still have Hafe's copy of A Prayer from Owen Meany. I was reading it when he died and couldn't bear to give it up. Just looking at the "CJ Hafen" written in red ink makes me smile when I open it. You know I used to send him my college paper to correct. Now people send me theirs and I love to write all over them in red ink the way Hafe wrote on mine.
What springs to your mind when you think about high school? Post a comment and let me know.
